Questions on Clear Edge GlassThe answers to all your questions on Clear Edge Glass Systems’ innovative frameless glass doors.

Are you thinking of enclosing your balcony or entertainment space with a Clear Edge Glass System (and why wouldn’t you)? Here are some commonly asked questions on Clear Edge Glass to help you get a better understanding of how the system works.

ARE CLEAR EDGED GLASS SLIDING DOORS SAFE?

Absolutely! Every Clear Edge Glass sliding door panel uses toughened safety glass; a Grade A safety glass, manufactured to AS/NZS2208 for use in buildings. This type of glass is manufactured by heating and then rapidly cooling float glass. Toughened safety glass is able to bow (bend) under extreme pressure without breaking. However, if the clear edged glass does break, it shatters into tiny squares – just like your car side windows.

WHAT IS LOW-E GLASS AND CAN YOU USE IT IN CLEAR EDGE GLASS SLIDING DOORS?

Yes you can! Low emissivity glass has a special thin layer of metallic oxide coating that allows the passage of short wave solar energy into a building, but prevents long wave energy produced by heating systems and lighting from escaping outside. As a result, low-E glass will allow light to enter while still providing thermal insulation. Frameless glass doors can be treated to be low-E. Read more on the different types of glass.

WHAT ARE THE SLIDING DOOR TRACKS MADE OF?

All sliding door tracks are extruded locally and made of the highest quality aluminium.

Aluminium is used for its durability and low maintenance. The corrosion resistant qualities of aluminium provide a low maintenance frame. In addition, aluminium is resistant to weathering under a range of harsh environmental conditions. Unlike many other materials, aluminium will not swell, crack, split, or warp over time. As a result,  you get an extended product life, which makes aluminium perfect for sliding door tracks.

WHAT COLOUR CAN MY CLEAR EDGE GLASS SLIDING DOORS BE POWDER-COATED IN?

The sliding door tracks are powder-coated using Dulux products. There are industry standard colours but the full colour range is extensive. The sliding door tracks are matched with your existing windows and doors.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BIFOLD DOORS AND FRAMELESS GLASS BIFOLD DOORS?

Bifold doors are framed and hinged together. They concertina and stack to one side. Bifold doors have vertical frames around each glass panel.

Frameless glass bifold doors – a name used incorrectly but nonetheless used, as frameless glass cannot be hinged together.

CAN CLEAR EDGE GLASS SLIDING DOORS BE FITTED RETROACTIVELY?

Yes!

WHY DO THE CLEAR EDGE GLASS SLIDING DOORS COST SO MUCH MORE THAN REGULAR BIFOLD DOORS OR GLASS SLIDING DOORS?

Each system is custom made and crafted to the millimetre to customer specifications. Materials are sourced from Australia to guarantee the highest quality product.
